{"id":117195,"date":"2024-03-18T07:41:32","date_gmt":"2024-03-18T12:41:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/?p=117195"},"modified":"2024-03-18T07:41:32","modified_gmt":"2024-03-18T12:41:32","slug":"iran-inks-big-contracts-to-increase-oil-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/en\/2024\/03\/18\/iran-inks-big-contracts-to-increase-oil-production\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran Inks Big Contracts to Increase Oil Production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dateline\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117196 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field-24x16.jpg 24w, https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field-36x24.jpg 36w, https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field-48x32.jpg 48w, https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/South-Pars-gas-field.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>VOA \u2014 TEHRAN \u2014 <\/span>Iran on Sunday sealed contracts worth billions of dollars with domestic companies to boost its oil production in the face of Western sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>In a ceremony broadcast on state TV, the oil ministry and Iranian businesses signed deals worth $13 billion to increase daily oil production in six major fields.<\/p>\n<p>Shana, the official news agency for the oil industry, labelled the deals as Iran&#8217;s &#8220;biggest oil contracts in the past decade&#8221; and said they aimed to add 350,000 barrels per day to the country&#8217;s daily production.<\/p>\n<p>In October, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji promised the country&#8217;s oil production would reach 3.6 million barrels per day by the end of the Persian year on March 19.<\/p>\n<p>In the new year under the Persian calendar, &#8220;production will reach 4 million barrels per day,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s oil sector suffered a blow in 2018 when Western sanctions were reimposed, forcing foreign companies to leave the country, after the United States withdrew from a landmark deal designed to curb Tehran&#8217;s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p>According to the oil ministry, Iran will be &#8220;relying on domestic expertise&#8221; to help boost the production in its western and southwestern fields, including Azadegan in Khuzestan province, on the border with Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>Development contracts for Iran&#8217;s oldest oil field, Masjed Soleyman in Khuzestan, were also signed.<\/p>\n<p>First drilled in 1908, well No. 1 in Masjed Soleyman is the oldest in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The oil ministry signed the contracts two days before the 73rd anniversary of the nationalization of the Iranian oil industry, then run by the British-controlled Anglo-Iranian Oil Company.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Iran said it has given $20 billion in contracts to domestic firms to ramp up production from the offshore South Pars gas field in the Gulf, which is shared with Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>According to United States Energy Information Administration (EIA), Iran was the world&#8217;s seventh-largest crude oil producer in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>It also holds the world&#8217;s third-largest proven oil reserves, behind Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, according to the EIA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VOA \u2014 TEHRAN \u2014 Iran on Sunday sealed contracts worth billions of dollars with domestic companies to boost its oil production in the face of Western sanctions.
