{"id":83524,"date":"2020-03-18T21:34:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T02:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/persian-heritage.com\/wordpress\/?p=79683"},"modified":"2020-04-14T15:18:23","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T20:18:23","slug":"iranian-man-faces-us-charges-in-weapons-part-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/PERSIAN-HERITAGE.COM\/en\/2020\/03\/18\/iranian-man-faces-us-charges-in-weapons-part-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Iranian Man Faces US Charges in Weapons Part Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-79684 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/persian-heritage.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/EnglishWEB-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>VOA &#8211; The\u00a0U.S. Justice Department announced Tuesday\u00a0that\u00a0an Iranian man will face federal charges in connection with an alleged scheme to obtain military parts that could be used in nuclear and other\u00a0weapons systems.\u00a0 The law enforcement agency said\u00a0Merdad\u00a0Ansari was extradited from the U.S. state of Georgia to San Antonio\u00a0in the U.S. state of\u00a0Texas\u00a0to face the charges.\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cAs alleged, the defendant helped Iran to develop its weapons programs by obtaining military parts in violation of the Iranian\u00a0trade\u00a0embargo,\u201d\u00a0said John Demers,\u00a0assistant\u00a0attorney\u00a0general for\u00a0national\u00a0security.<\/p>\n<p>A federal grand jury indicted the 38-year-old Ansari\u00a0in 2012\u00a0with conspiracy to launder money and commit wire fraud.
