Chester says she thinks that \u201cafter the pandemic subsides, it may be hard for some people to stop their pattern of problematic drinking.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince alcohol is so ingrained in our culture,\u201d she said, it would be hard to shut down the distributors and establishments that serve liquor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Considered \u201cessential\u201d businesses, liquor stores generate huge tax revenues that comprise a substantial portion of many state government budgets. Liquor shops in 49 of America\u2019s 50 states, as well as the nation\u2019s capital, have remained open during the pandemic. Pennsylvania shut down its liquor stores but when residents began traveling to nearby states to buy alcohol, authorities allowed online sales and curbside pickup. On Friday, the state began allowing customers to shop in some of the stores.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embedded-entity div\" role=\"group\">\n<div data-embed-button=\"wysiwug_image\" data-entity-embed-display=\"view_mode:media.large_embedded\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-entity-uuid=\"eb82aaf8-9634-44fa-b039-f307c3009c83\" data-langcode=\"en\">\n<figure class=\"media media--type-image media--view-mode-\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.voltron.voanews.com\/Drupal\/01live-166\/styles\/sourced_737px_wide\/s3\/2020-05\/customer%20with%20beer%20in%20texas_0.jpg?itok=tlh9RcxQ\" alt=\"A customer being served a beer at Guitars &amp; Growlers in Richardson, Texas.
