Iran\u202fcontinues to increase its stockpile of enriched uranium\u202fin violation of the 2015 nuclear deal, but has started allowing access to sites where Tehran was suspected of having stored or used undeclared nuclear material, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)<\/a> said Friday.<\/p>\n According to the UN atomic watchdog, Iran’s stockpile of enriched\u202furanium\u202fnow stands at more than ten times the limit set down in the nuclear deal.<\/p>\n The limit was set at 300 kilograms\u00a0(661 pounds) of enriched\u202furanium\u202fin a particular compound form, which is the equivalent of 202.8 kg of\u202furanium.\u00a0<\/p>\n Read more:<\/em>Is Iran using the coronavirus crisis to bolster its nuclear program?<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The IAEA reported in a confidential document distributed to member countries and seen by several news outlets that\u202fIran\u202fas of August 25 had stockpiled 2,105.4 kilograms (2.32 tons) of low-enriched\u202furanium, up from 1,571.6 kilograms (1.73 tons) last reported on May 20.<\/p>\n Iran\u202fsigned the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, in 2015 with the US,\u00a0 Germany, France, the UK, China and Russia.\u00a0<\/p>\n The increase follows Washington’s withdrawal from the deal in 2018 and the reimposition of sanctions against Tehran.<\/a><\/p>\n After a prolonged standoff, Iran authorized the IAEA to inspect one of the two sites\u00a0agreed last week.<\/p>\n The agency took environmental samples to identify any traces of nuclear material that may have been present.\u00a0<\/p>\nTehran allows inspection\u00a0<\/h2>\n
