Under existing climate policies, G7 nations stand to lose 8.5 percent of GDP a year \u2013\u00a0almost 5 trillion dollars \u2013\u00a0by 2050, as temperatures rise by 2.6 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n

Italy and France would be the worst-hit rich countries, their economies shrinking by an estimated 11.4 and 10 percent respectively.<\/p>\n

In comparison, the coronavirus crisis wiped an average 4.2 percent off G7 economies.<\/p>\n

The research<\/a>, by Oxfam and the Swiss Re Institute, modelled how economies would respond to \u201cgradual, chronic climate risks\u201d such as rising sea levels and extreme weather, as well as the associated impacts on agricultural productivity and human health.<\/p>\n
