\"\"VOA \u2014 A Washington Post-ABC News poll<\/a> has found a startling difference between Democrats and Republicans as it relates to COVID-19\u00a0vaccination.\u00a0The poll found that while 86% of Democrats have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, only 45% of Republicans\u00a0have.<\/p>\n

In addition, the survey found\u00a0that while\u00a0only\u00a06% of Democrats said they would\u00a0probably\u00a0decline\u00a0the vaccine, 47% of Republicans\u00a0said they\u00a0would\u00a0probably not\u00a0be inoculated.<\/p>\n

The poll also found that\u00a060% of unvaccinated Americans believe the U.S. is\u00a0exaggerating\u00a0the dangers of\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0delta variant,\u00a0while\u00a018% of the unvaccinated say the government is accurately describing the variant\u2019s risks.<\/p>\n

However, 64% of vaccinated Americans believe the government is accurately describing the dangers of the\u00a0delta variant.<\/p>\n

Iran fighting COVID 5th wave <\/strong><\/p>\n

The variant is having a\u00a0global impact.\u00a0Iran\u2019s\u00a0President\u00a0Hassan Rouhani\u00a0has warned that the country is on the brink of a \u201cfifth wave\u201d of\u00a0a COVID-19 outbreak.\u00a0The\u00a0delta variant of the virus, first\u00a0identified\u00a0in India, is\u00a0largely\u00a0responsible\u00a0for the\u00a0rising number of hospitalizations and deaths in Iran, officials say.<\/p>\n

All\u00a0non-essential businesses have been ordered\u00a0closed\u00a0in 275 cities, including Tehran, the capital.\u00a0Travel has also been restricted between cities that are\u00a0experiencing\u00a0high infection rates.<\/p>\n

Reports say only about 5% of Iranians have been vaccinated.<\/p>\n

India may be undercounting COVID cases<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Monday, India\u2019s health ministry reported 39,796 new COVID cases in the\u00a0previous\u00a024-hour period.\u00a0Just a few weeks ago India was reporting\u00a0a daily tally of a least 50,000 new cases.\u00a0Public health officials have warned, however, that\u00a0the country is\u00a0likely undercounting\u00a0its COVID cases.<\/p>\n

Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reported early Monday that there are 183.8 million global COVID cases.\u00a0The U.S. has the most with 33.7 million, followed by\u00a0India\u00a0with 30.6 million and Brazil with\u00a018.8\u00a0million.\u00a0Johns\u00a0Hopkins said more than 3 billion vaccines have been administered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
